On the occasion of National Cinema Day, the Director of Iran's Cinema Organization (ICO), Mohammad Khazaei, delivered a powerful message to the country's film industry, celebrating its resilience and promising continued support for its development and prosperity.
According to the Public Relations Department of ICO, in his statement, Khazaei paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Iranian cinema, especially during challenging times. "Today, on the occasion of National Cinema Day, we honor the honorable Iranian cinema, a cinema that has always shone brightly, even in the face of difficulties and trials," he said.
He continued, "Iranian cinema has brought us international acclaim, with our country being recognized globally for its cinematic achievements. Our names and memories resonate in various international events, and our neighbors in the region hold Iranian cinema as a standard of excellence."
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the industry, Khazaei assured, "I understand the concerns of the Iranian cinema family regarding livelihood, screening, and film production. I am troubled by the ongoing problems, but we have not let these obstacles deter us. We have overcome the post-pandemic recession, and the wheels of production keep turning."
Khazaei emphasized the organization's commitment to justice in the cultural sphere, particularly for young filmmakers outside major cities. "We have placed these talented individuals at the heart of our attention, and by reviving provincial cinemas, we have paved the way for their film production dreams," he added.
Defiantly, he stated, "Yes, there have been roadblocks, and they may have slowed us down, but we haven't stopped, and we won't be stopped. Iranian cinema needs a dynamic film production ecosystem that fosters employment, not a factory of statement-writing and essay-contests."
Concluding his message, Khazaei reaffirmed his dedication to the promises made to the Iranian cinema community and expressed his unwavering support for the industry's continued growth and success.
The statement from the Head of Iran's Cinema Organization serves as a testament to the country's commitment to its vibrant film industry and its determination to overcome challenges, fostering a thriving cinematic culture.
