Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has described short films as the voice of today’s generation and an opportunity to creatively portray the realities of Iran and the world, in a message to the 43rd Tehran International Short Film Festival.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Iranian Cinema Organization, citing the festival’s press office, the full text of the president’s message to the 43rd edition of the event reads as follows:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Iran is a land of people who, throughout history, have played a prominent role in science and the arts, drawing on their rich culture and brilliant civilization. The efforts and creativity of successive generations have been transformed into a lasting legacy for future generations. Today, this path continues through the ideas and aspirations of the younger generation.
Cinema is one of the most important languages through which this life and culture can be narrated. It can portray what people see and experience, as well as what they aspire to for their future, and share these perspectives with others.
Short films, by creating opportunities for fresh perspectives, new experiences and creative storytelling, offer an honest and artistic portrayal of aspects of contemporary life in Iran and around the world.
The Tehran International Short Film Festival is a valuable opportunity to bring these perspectives together and foster dialogue among filmmakers from Iran and across the world. It also provides a platform for nations to gain a deeper understanding of one another and for people to draw closer through art and culture.
Today, more than ever, we need art and narratives that bring people closer together, foster dialogue and mutual understanding, and seek hope, solidarity and the possibility of building a better future within the realities of people’s lives. Through the intimacy and boldness of its storytelling, short film gives voice to today’s generation and reflects its vision of the world and the future.
